Resources The Clinical Trials Statistical and Data Management Center (CTSDMC) is a separate unit within the Department of Biostatistics. It provides an infrastructure for the development, conduct, management, administration and statistical analysis of clinical trials. Specific areas of expertise include clinical data management, case report form design, database design and biostatistical analysis. Further, the CTSDMC performs a variety of monitoring functions related to protocol compliance, safety issues and accuracy and completeness of data in all of its trials. The center's offices are located in the Westlawn Building on the Health Sciences campus in close proximity to other College of Public Health offices and to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC). The College of Public Health is organized into five departments: Biostatistics, Community and Behavioral Health, Epidemiology, Health Management and Policy, and Occupational Environmental Health. Active research projects are maintained in each department, with most of the studies involving faculty from two to three of the departments. Many projects are collaborative with laboratory and clinical investigators throughout the UIHC (an 891-tertiary-level center and teaching hospital) as well as the University overall. The computing environment at the CTSDMC is a secure system developed for the express purpose of processing, managing, and analyzing data from multi-center clinical trials. A local area network (LAN), consisting of Windows NT servers provides file and database storage, web services, data backup, remote access, and printing capabilities. The servers provide CTSDMC statisticians with the necessary power and speed for performing advanced statistical analyses. Extensive measures are in place to prevent unauthorized access, thus providing a secure environment for confidential data.
